Introduction

Trefilerķas Quijano, S.A. manufactures wire by cold deformation (wiredrawing) using high, medium and low carbon rolled wire as a raw material, to be transformed during the different stages of the process.

All processes begin by passing the rolled wire along the automatic pickling line. Here, chemical cleaning of the ferrous oxide (Fe2O3) formed during the heat lamination of the rolled wire takes place and it is given an adequate surface covering ready for later deformation.

The wiredrawing is a cold deformation, normally on multiple machines, where the initial diameter of the raw material is reduced to a final diameter in a single process, passing the rolled wire through tools (die plates) with successively smaller diameters.

Thermal treatment shall include annealing and patenting to regenerate the structure of the steel in order to be continue the drawing process and, at the same time, give the material certain mechanical and structural characteristics.

Depending on the type of rolled wire used and the later use of the manufactured wire, two clearly differentiated sections will be seen:
  • Hard steel
  • Cold-pressing
